Indiana University Health is seeking physicians to fill the newly created role of Command Center Physician. This is an internal position open to hospitalist and emergency medicine physicians currently employed by IUHMG.
The successful candidates will provide clinical leadership and decision support within the System Operations Center (SOC) to optimize interfacility patient transfers and patient placement across the health system. Using real-time systemwide visibility into hospital capacity, acuity, and operational constraints, the physician helps ensure that each patient is placed in the most appropriate facility and level of care as efficiently as possible. This role supports timely and appropriate patient placement by assisting with clinical triage, facilitating communication between referring and receiving providers, and helping resolve complex transfer or placement decisions. The Command Center Physician works closely with clinical nurse expeditors, transfer center nurses, bed management teams, and hospital-based clinical leaders to reduce transfer-related delays, improve throughput, and ensure continuity of care across the system. In addition to real-time operational responsibilities, The Physician will play an important role in designing, building, and refining the SOC model during its early implementation. This includes helping develop patient placement protocols, escalation pathways, and triage guidelines; identifying operational barriers to efficient patient flow; and partnering with operational, clinical, and financial leaders to improve system performance. Through these efforts, the physician helps shape a coordinated, systemwide approach to patient access and capacity management. The Physician also contributes to ongoing evaluation and improvement of SOC operations by identifying opportunities to enhance workflow, support data-informed decision-making, and advance strategies that improve access, patient outcomes, and efficient utilization of health system resources.
Applicants must attach CV and letter of interest to be considered.
